“Resting Place” airbrush on watercolor board 15 x 30 SOLD
Living in Alaska, I have become aware of the delicate life-cycles of the salmon. They are considered the very lifeblood of Alaska. So much of the eco-system depends on them. Here I wanted to depict the last chapter of their life cycle. They leave the vast ocean to lay down their lives to ensure future generations by returning to the rivers where they were hatched. After they spawn their long and difficult journey is over and they die. A bit of heaven’s rays shine down on them as they now rest until they perish. Prints available
This painting is about the delicate balance of nature here in Alaska. Salmon are the lifeblood of the people and wildlife here. In this painting, the sea life comes together to say farewell to the salmon as they leave their life at sea to go back to the streams where they were born; there they will spawn the next generation. These sea creatures leap in the joy, hope and faith that we will steward their management wisely. If we do so, the salmon will return. Therefore they continue as a “Leap of Faith” They are shown here in the round circle symbol of eternity. 19 x 30 acrylic airbrush
“Batik Style”
What do I mean by “Batik Style”? This is a process where paper is left unpainted in areas, the image is painted then saturated with ink. Later it is scrubbed under water. Half the paintings treated this way are ruined. But if they survive the ink and the scrubbing underwater, they become one-of-a-kind with a beautiful distressed look. To me, it represents my outlook on life. Like so many of us, I have had life crises that left my future uncertain. Yet like these paintings, as I have yielded to God in the darkness (ink) and the drowning (submersion and cleansing) I find that I become unique and beautiful as well!
