“Dis-entanglement: Call of the Wild” Mural: Acrylic on Canvas approximately 5 x 10 feet. This was done for a Mural Show where the theme was “Call of the Wild”. Sometimes we finds ourselves in a relational dynamic (whether a work, family or other situation) where there are various roles one is expected to play. Questioning is viewed as non-compliance and peace is often at the price of losing one’s voice. Like a Carousel full of stationary horses we stay in line- moving but never getting anywhere. In this scene, the wooden carousel horses break free and as they do they begin the transformation back into the wild free mustangs they once were.
“Freedom” Gouache and acrylic on watercolor paper. 20x 25 inches I closed myself into my studio to paint. My mom had passed away the day before with her family all about her. I had no design in mind when I began moving extra paint around on the paper. This painting seemed to take it’s own form. As I sat back and viewed it, emotion swept over me. I realized it was about my mom. The Bible tells of a day when creation will be restored and there is no more sorrow and death. It says that even the animals wont harm one another any more; predators will eat grass etc. This image spoke to me that mom was truly free in the beauty of heaven, and that someday the reality of God’s presence there would likewise encompass the rest of His children and creation.
